JACKSON - The director of a township animal sanctuary was charged with two counts of animal cruelty after two dogs died while under her care. Laura Pople, 55, is the executive director of Seer Farms, a Jackson nonprofit self-described as a "people-centered animal sanctuary." In Feburuary 2016, Jersey City resident Carl Shepard brought two dogs to the facility after his home was damaged due to fire. Shepard planned on picking up the dogs after he found a new Both dogs died in June 2016 while at Seer Farms, despite being in good health when they were dropped off there. One dog, a cocker spaniel named Rocky, died from cardiorespiratory failure, a result of pulmonary vascular thrombosis likely caused by bacterial pneumonia.
